This screenplay captures the fascinating story of Dr Archibald McIndoe and his ground-breaking work during the Second
World War.
As the threat of Nazi Germany loomed across Europe, he set up a new plastic surgery unit at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. Here, he and his team worked tirelessly to save and restore the lives of RAF pilots and others, who had suffered severe burns and injuries.
At the same time, McIndoe was forced to battle opposition from the hospital board, the local townsfolk and even the
medical industry itself.
McIndoe’s restoration work included not only his pioneering plastic surgery to rebuild faces, limbs and bodies, but also his efforts to give his patients a new life.
A life worth living.
A life, above all, of hope.A
